A mysterious murder catches the attention of U.S. Marshal Eddie Dean, who, with sidekick Soapy Jones, enters the town where the crime was committed and begins investigating. Meanwhile, he meets young Mary Ann Jarvis, who has inherited a ranch, and sleazy lawyer Ben Gunnison, who wants the rights to the land because he's started up a secret gold mine on it. Eddie then sets out to thwart Gunnison while trying to solve the murder case.
